Ian NievesDYSCO.dj, Founder
Ian (a.k.a. waffelboy) is an entrepreneur, computer scientist, and user interface designer in San Francisco. As a founder of Dyscotheque, Inc., he is developing a next-generation interface to the mobile web, known as dysco.dj. Through dysco.dj, it is easy and fun to share personal information about yourself, such as what drinks you like, which bands, etc. Perhaps more importantly, dysco.dj is a social statement which says that people are implicitly connected through their interests and passions.
Prior to starting Dyscotheque, Ian launched an underground designer waffle outfit known as "Waffelicious". He focused on developing premium waffles with a wide assortment of ingredients cooked into the waffle as well as a ton of toppings available.
Ian's primary startup experience comes from being an early partner at a network security company known as "Untangle". At Untangle, Ian developed the "Virtual Network Rack" user interface, allowing 15-20 different security software devices to be controlled simultaneously. His work landed him a US Patent in 2008 and has landed Untangle hundreds of thousands of downloads, as well as numerous accolades and "Best of..." awards.
Ian holds an M.S. in Software Engineering from CMU, as well as a B.S. Double Major in Computer Science and Economics, with College Honors, from CMU. When he's not working on dysco.dj, he's probably listening to records, running, making waffles, or sleeping!
